The Successful Terra Server 7000 Series enters its third generation

The success story of the TERRA Server 7000 series continues as WORTMANN AG presents the third generation of the Server 7000 series, supporting the new Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. TERRA Server 7000 G3 servers are based on the Intel® Server Board S2600WF family and Intel® Server Board S2600ST family. These scalable and full featured product families deliver power and performance at peak efficiency, backed by Intel’s design and manufacturing expertise. With high memory capacity, storage, I/O and networking flexibility, these products support a wide range of workloads spanning cloud and virtualization. These new systems enable customers to work more efficiently with databases, virtualized systems or high-availability systems.

Advancements in Storage,
Memory, Network and I/O

The TERRA Server 7000 series has been completely reworked and equipped with the new Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors spanning all four processor tiers (bronze, silver, gold and platinum). These processors set a new bar in platform convergence and capabilities across compute, storage, memory, network and security. The Intel® Xeon® Scalable platform delivers up to 28 cores per processor and enhanced per-core performance, and significant increases in memory bandwidth (six memory channels per processor) and I/O bandwidth (48 PCIe lanes per processor). Additionally, up to three Intel® Ultra Path Interconnect (UPI) channels increase scalability of the platform as well as inter-CPU bandwidth for I/O intensive workloads vs. the previous generation (with Intel® QuickPath Interconnect), offering improved throughput and energy efficiency. With these enhancements, systems based on Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors are capable of handling customers’ most demanding workloads.

New Feature Integrations

Intel has introduced several new feature integrations on the new processors to further enhance performance and security.
These include:

Integrated Intel® Ethernet with scalable iWARP RDMA provides up to 4x10GbE high speed Ethernet capability for high data throughput and lowlatency workloads.

Integrated Intel® QuickAssist Technology enables hardware acceleration for cryptography and data compression and frees the host processor to focus on

other critical workloads

Integrated Intel® Omni-Path Architecture provides 100Gbps high-bandwidthand low-latency next-generation fabric.

NVMe enablement eliminates I/O bottlenecks

All models are supported by optional NVME Intel® SSDs. All 2.5” front drive bays of 1U and 2U systems can be equipped with 2.5” U.2 NVMe drives. With the help of this new technology, database access and floating-point calculations are accelerated. Compared to a single NVMe drive, which can reach up to 460,000 IOPS, six to seven SATA SSDs or two to three SAS 12G SSDs are needed to get the same value.

Easy expandability and scalability

The systems are equipped with dual 10 Gigabit Intel® Ethernet interfaces. These interfaces can be extended by new modules without having to occupy PCIe slots. All servers are delivered with redundant power supplies that meet the 80+ Platinum criteria and contain redundant fans. The servers have an integrated server management module with a dedicated network port. The 1U servers are equipped with up to eight 2.5″ Hot Swap drive bays. Up to 26 2.5″ Hot Swap drive bays (24x front, 2x rear for SSDs) and two internal SSD slots are available in the 2U servers. The 2U serverswith 3.5″ drive bays have 12 3.5″ Hot Swap drive bays on the front and two 2.5″ Hot Swap rear-mounted SSD drive bays.

The 4U Tower server can be mixed with 2.5 “and 3.5” drives. Sixteen 2.5 “, eight 3.5″, eight 2.5 ” and four 3.5″ configurations are possible.

Conclusion

The 7000 series servers are ideal for use in virtualization environments with Microsoft® Hyper-V, VMware® and other technologies. They can also be used as universal servers if high-performance systems are required. These high capacity servers with direct attached storage (DAS) solutions help meet the demands created by exponentially increasing data volumes. For all systems, the TERRA media reservation can be booked at a small extra charge in order to meet the data protection requirements. Up to 60 months of on-site service with response times of 4 or 24 hours can be booked, as well as the TERRA Premium Service with a term of up to 60 months for hardware protection around the clock.
